The STM32F427/437 lines present a compelling combination of performance, power efficiency, graphics capabilities, and extensive integration.
Performance
Running at 180 MHz with the Cortex-M4 core (including a floating-point unit), the STM32F427/437 delivers an impressive 225 DMIPS/608 CoreMark performance when executing from Flash memory, courtesy of ST’s ART Accelerator that ensures 0-wait states. The inclusion of DSP instructions and the floating-point unit broadens the application scope.
Power Efficiency
Leveraging ST’s 90 nm process, ART Accelerator, and dynamic power scaling, the current consumption in run mode and when executing from Flash memory is as low as 260 µA/MHz at 180 MHz. In Stop mode, the typical power consumption is 120 µA, which is three times lower compared to STM32F405/415/407/F417.
Graphics
Unlike the STM32F429/439, the STM32F427/437 doesn’t have an embedded LCD-TFT controller interface. Nevertheless, it’s feasible to connect a display through parallel or serial interfaces and fully utilize ST’s Chrom-ART Accelerator™, which doubles the content creation speed compared to the core alone. This accelerator supports efficient 2-D raw data copy, image blending, and format conversion.
Integration
- Audio: 2 dedicated audio PLL, 2 full duplex I²S, and a new serial audio interface (SAI) supporting time division multiplex (TDM) mode.
- Communication: Up to 20 interfaces, including 4x USARTs, 4x UARTs running at up to 11.25 Mbit/s, 6x SPI at up to 45 Mbit/s, 3x I²C with a new optional digital filter, 2x CAN, and SDIO.
- Analog: Two 12-bit DACs and three 12-bit ADCs reaching 2.4 MSPS or 7.2 MSPS in interleaved mode.
- Timers: Up to 17 timers (16- and 32-bit) operating at up to 180 MHz.
- Memory: Easily expandable range via a 90 MHz memory controller with a 32-bit parallel interface, supporting Compact Flash, SRAM, PSRAM, NOR, NAND, and SDRAM memories.
- Random Number Generator: Analog true random number generator.
- Crypto/Hash: The STM32F437 integrates a crypto/hash processor providing hardware acceleration for AES-128, -192, and -256, along with support for GCM, CCM, Triple DES, and hashes like MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-2.
The STM32F427 and F437 product lines offer from 1-Mbyte dual-bank Flash to 2-Mbyte dual-bank Flash, 256-Kbyte SRAM, and come in packages with 100 to 176 pins as small as 7 x 7 mm. This significant memory integration reduces the need for external memory, enabling smaller, safer, and low-emission PCB designs.
